::Cut Squares… Check!::

September 15, 2009 By Katie

I’ve been busy cutting squares for my Value Quilt Along.  It’s amazing, I REALLY don’t need to buy any more fabric, but how I love looking at it all!  Just LOOK at that stack!  It makes me so happy.

Here’s some cut squares.  I went a little crazy.

I’ve been a bit obsessed with Alexander Henry’s fabrics of late.

Love this orange Amy Butler with the turquoise.

Old Amy Butler’s are the best in my opinion.

The colors are so vibrant in Kaffe’s fabrics and I love Good Folks.

I’m sure not one of you saw something you needed to add to your stash.

One thing I love about cutting for this quilt is it gives me new inspiration for new fabric combos.  I wish it would curb my enthusiasm for purchasing.  You’d think I would just say, “enough is enough!”

Some new combos:

A pillowcase for me, because Heather Ross fabric is sooo soft and I can hide it behind the mountain of other pillows so I don’t have to worry about it not matching my bed stuff:

Some random combining.  Quilts or some sort of patchwork for sure.

Hope your cutting is inspiring too!

You combine fabrics in a way I just love! I guess I need to get on picking fabrics. I think I’m going to go the multicolour route as well.

Your stash is to die for!!! I love all those gorgeous vibrant colours, and your combinations are fabulous. I completely agree with you about the old Amy Butler fabrics, I loved her Charm range, and Belle and Lotus were both lovely. I can’t wait to watch your values quilt come together. 🙂

I’ve always wanted to do a quilt like this. Last week I spent time pawing through my stash…cutting squares. I’m going to follow along and hopefully do more that just watch. LOVE your fabrics. And yes, old Amy Butler fabrics are the best. Have you seen a peek of her new line?

I’m going to attempt to make 2 of these to use for Christmas gifts. I’ve got my fabric ( i THINK) and am ready to go. Hope to start cutting today. Just out of curiosity…if I’m cutting 5in squares, to make a big enough quilt for 2 to cuddle under…how many squares would you recommend? I’ve only made 2 baby quilts before so any help you could give ould be greatly apreciated!!

You have some great fabric combos going on. I wish I could curb my want for new fabric, too. I really don’t need more, but boy are there some out that I really want.

Saw the new line. Think I finally like her colors!

I think I would go with at least 15 rows, maybe more. I do 13 rows for a generous lap quilt for myself. Toss them up on a design wall and subtract you seam allowance. It will give you an idea if it’s big enough.

love all the colors … my stash is so small. Moved recently and got rid of a lot of fabric that I’d had for ages … miss it. Have a new designer (I’m sure she’s not new … just to me) Valori Wells for Free Spirit, her Rose Olive line. Need to go shopping and get some and start a quilt … I did make a dress for my daughter-in-law yesterday, first time I’ve sewn since June and it felt wonderful. Thanks for the inspiration and love your blog!

Boy it sure beats thrift store bedsheets, haha! Yowza! You are a lucky lady with that stash 🙂

I really like that Heather Ross fabric, too. I think I’ll make a special trip to an actual fabric store and pick some up. A coworker of mine is having her first baby, a girl, and I’ve already started on a quilt for her, but I also want to throw in a couple swaddling blankets and I’ve been needing an excuse to buy some of that fabric 😉

I was right! We have very similar taste in fabric! LOVE the older Amy Butlers (but I’ll take any and all) and Kaffe and AMH Good Folks (I have half yard cuts and fat quarters in every fabric). Love, love, love all the fabrics you have chosen!
