October 31, 2009 By Katie

My home is a disaster.  Everyone is sick.  So I sat down and put together my quilt top for some sanity.  I’m hoping this fabulous Halloween weather will hold so I can get some photos outside tomorrow.

I ended up adding a row to make it square.  This will actually be the first quilt I’ve ever made for myself.  I’m looking forward to cuddling up on the couch with it.  Mine all Mine!

So this week it’s time to stitch the rows together to finish the whole quilt top!

I pin the intersection of the blocks only when I piece the rows.  I pull a bit if needed to help them through and line them up.  I’m going to be lame and not reinvent the wheel with a tutorial of stitching the rows together, there’s plenty of info out there and I need to get ready for Trick-or-Treating with my little SQUID MAN!

Be thinking of your quilt backing, that comes next week.  I’m thinking some of the new Amy Butler, this one is perfect.

Happy Halloween!

I love your quilt, but it has me scratching my head (read my comments on Flickr). I was looking at fabric today for backs for 3 quilt tops and I started to consider home dec fabric, but was worried how it would turn out. I notice that your considering that for your value quilt. Have you used it before? How does it quilt?

Looks great. I like the new direction you took.
I too regained some sanity in a sick and messy household today working on my own quilt along project. It felt so good!

That purple fabric is a Yuwa fabric and I think called Daisy something. I love it too!

A professional quilter was in the shop the other day and I asked her about the use of home decor fabric for backing. She said anything works, even jean or corduroy.

good for you making something for yourself!!! I did that last year and I LOVE using my quilt! Good luck with all the sickness….we did that 2 weeks ago but my house was actually cleaner then usual because the kids were too sick to even play! Love your quilt!

Beautiful quilt! Enjoy! Love the possible backing fabric. We got the sickness here, too. Nasty!

Oh, it’s so pretty. I like the layout you finally decided to go with. I’m also intrigued by your idea of using home dec fabric for the back – I’ll be interested to hear what you think of it when it’s done. I’m so far behind on my values quilt. Finally finished all the blocks and nearly finished trimming them. Daughter’s H1N1 and husband’s knee surgery plus a little sinus issue of my own slowed me right down this week.

I’m glad you got to take a little time to be creative amidst the other demands on you. I hope everyone feels better soon; we’re just getting over the crud and I’m SO glad!

This is a really modern look quilt! I carefully look the fabric you used. Great color use! I hope I’ll be able to make a modern quilt soon. I am on the stage of collecting modern fabric.

    Have a wonderful day~

This is adorable! I was thinking of doing something similar recently, and might just morph it to doing a values quilt. I certainly have the stash to make about a hundred. 🙂

Also, I am also from Seattle! Yay! 🙂
