Hope all of you in the states enjoyed the holiday.
We ditched the Thanksgiving food tradition a few years ago. Those of the family around pick a country and come up with a festive easy menu. We had quite a group. We decided on Mexico. Everyone contributing an item for our taco bar. It was quite impressive and mixed well with beer and football.
I spent time getting cozie with my seam ripper, as you can see from the disastrous stitches above. I am hoping to baste it better and use the proper needle which I thought I had in.
I minded Fabric Crush over the holiday and in between customers (sewers are the nicest lot btw), I worked on a nine patch sample for the class.
I love the flannel and paired it with a mix of girlie prints. I am particularly fond of the new Cherie and the Chocolate Lollipop cartoon like flowers.
Just to mix it up a bit, some of the centers are different.
Did you do any sewing on the Holiday? Any wonderful Black Friday finds in fabric?
I’m so glad to hear you had non-traditional food for Thanksgiving. Several years ago after moving to New Mexico I served Mexican food for Thanksgiving and never lived it down. To this day every Thanksgiving someone comments on the Mexican food that year. I think they remember it fondly, though.
I took my machine with me (traveling), but didn’t accomplish much. I did go fabric shopping and purchased lots of cool stuff, but did all that before Friday.
P.S. I’m getting friendly with my seam ripper, too!
I really like this nine patch. Thanks for sharing it.
I took a finished quilt with me on a non traditional vacation, (Indoor water park hotel stay.) and sewed down the binding. After I got home I looked at it and decided I hated what I did. I just finished tearing the whole thing apart. I ironed it and picked off all the threads and put it away. So it’s nice to hear I’m not the only one tearing quilting out.
I’m a vegan and my husband and boys don’t like turkey so we went out to eat on Wednesday night and then had pizza Thursday night at the hotel.
Now I could of gotten into some Mexican food. Love my beans!
Thanks for sharing your nine patch its beautiful. Cynthia
I wanted to try that this year but my family was horrified at the idea..guess everyone loves turkey a lot more than me. I sewed up some Christmas pillows yesterday but haven’t gotten much done this holiday weekend – and I finally ventured out today to a craft fair but that’s the extent of the shopping too.
No sewing this weekend, but lots of writing. And just hit send on a couple of articles. I am, however, about to make a couple of labels and get them handstitched down tonight.
Sorry about the picking…
no sewing…lots of cooking…a little cyber shopping. (the fabric on my blog are the new additions to the mingle line)
Wonderful idea!
We actually ordered our Thanksgiving meal from QFC and it was great! Moist turkey and no dishes to wash.
I LOVE the little nine patch sampler! And pairing it with soft flannel? Very cool.
I found a great deal on fabric on Black Friday. The Crate & Barrel outlet had a bin of fabric remnants for 95 cents a pound. My sister-in-law saw that I liked one or two fabrics and then she went ALL OUT sorting fabrics for me till we found all the coordinating scraps. I went home with about 100 pre-cut 4 inch squares and lots of coordinating remnants… All for the low price of $1.03 ($0.95 before taxes)!
I hate use the seam ripper… but sometimes is necesary.. beautiful nine patch… that fabric with those very tiny hearts is so cute! we don’t have thanksgiving or black friday here, but this past weekend i ate great mexican food too! 🙂
I just grasped color value and now you are suggesting that a person can mix flannel and cotton? Who put these crazy quilt rules in my head? It looks lovely – you have a way with fabric that I really admire.
I did sew a binding on a quilt that has been on a shelf forever. I have several of these unfinished ditties…a few that just need binding and some tops that need quilting or finishing. Since time is a commodity around here, I decided I could spend a small amount finishing things up and then I still feel like I accomplished something!
Love the orangey pinky goodness at the top….
your pink quilt is so cute!
Love your Thanksgiving themed food idea, too.
The nine patch quilt is darling. Do you find flannel works well with 100% cotton fabric? I have thought about buying a king size flannel for the backing, but still not sure if it works well.
I always use flannel as a backing. I like the weight that it adds to a quilt. You will want to baste the heck out of it and perhaps use a longer stitch when quilting. Good luck!
Can you please tell us who makes the tiny heart fabric. It is just too adorable!
