It must be here because I spent a portion of the day eating wonderful food, cooking wonderful food or talking about wonderful food. The cooking part might be healthy procrastination.
I actually ate strawberries that tasted like strawberries. I talked canning with Blair which reminded me that I should take some time to make some dilly beans and asparagus this year. I like to add whole garlic and jalapenos.
But these beauties are at their peak and need to be put to use. Here’s the favorite:
Cauliflower Augratin
– one head cauliflower (about 3#), cut
-2 Tbsp. butter
-2 Tbsp. flour
-1 cup milk
-1 cup creme fraiche
-2 oz. goat cheese
-2 oz. fresh chives, chopped
-salt and pepper
-pinch of cayenne
*preheat oven to 350 and butter a 12-inch gratin or shallow baking dish.
*Bring cauliflower to a boil and simmer 10 minutes until tender, drain.
*Melt butter, whisk in flour, stir till it forms a paste.
*Gradually add milk till smooth and cook over low heat until thick.
*Stir in chives, goat cheese, creme fresh, s/p and cayenne.
*Arrange cauliflower and cover with sauce.
*Bake until golden and bubbling, about 40 minutes.
If no one sees you eat it then it doesn’t have any calories I swear.
I also got to eat out with my lovely friend Noelle and this wonderful lady that some of you may know as Handmade by Alissa. Can you guess where we are? Hint…it’s food related. How awesome to meet the people you communicate with virtually AND really enjoy their company. We probably all could have stayed out way later, but reality calls.

in our house we get a little overexcited about the asparagus season. I think I’ll have boiled eggs and asparagus dippers this weekend for breakfast. Big fat spears all covered in runny egg yolk. Yum!
ps thanks for the zipper tute – you’re a gem!

I’m all set to “put up”! And yes to strawberries that taste like real strawberries, they are currently flying out of our house (Emma and I constantly have red stained fingers). Fun to see you yesterday!

I *love* going to the market early on a summer morning, getting a cup of real Starbucks coffee and watching the market come alive with the sounds of wheels squeeking and bags rustling, the vendors getting their stall assignments and it all on the brink of the hustle and bustle of summer tourist chaos! Fun times.
