I’ve finally finished this evening an improvisational quilt that I’ve been working on for nearly two weeks. My brain was searching for a quilt that didn’t require as much planning in its creative process to switch things up. So here it is…my first ever follow a pattern quilt.
So I decided to make a simple, structured coin quilt and while I was at it, offer up a Coin Quilt Class to accompany it. Of course we can practice improvisationally piecing in class too.
I would usually go for the saturated colors with Kaffe Fasset prints and was a bit skeptical about the pastel fabric picks at first. It turned out so crisp and clean against the white. A little Ta Dot, a bit of Amy Butler and some of this tone on tone aqua fabric that Sarah carries made it pretty fresh I think.
My next coin quilt will be a little more wonky for sure. I have something in mind of uniting the wonk with the colorwheel effect I did in my last coin quilt. I like the effect.
Hope you had a good weekend!
Love all those fabrics in there – beautiful!
Looks so feminine and pretty!!!
like it alot! very well planned out in a non-planning way … colors are wonderful!
I think you found a good mix of structure and randomness. The softer colors looks very pretty, and I love way you framed it. This will be a fun quilt to teach – so many possibilities to play with color!
Your color-wheel coin is a favorite!
; )
Beautiful! I love your colour wheel quilt. May I ask what size your rectangles were? This is such a good idea for scraps.
I don’t have it anymore but I think they were maybe 3×4.
I have never ever followed a pattern for a quilt, but I’m increasingly tempted! That one looks lovely.
This quilt is just lovely! I love the rectangles and am tempted to get the pattern. I’m wondering if you sewed strips together or pieced all the rectangles. Hmmmm…..
This one is strip pieced. Easy peazy.
This is really lovely…a great way to showcase your fabric stash. I was spotting all the different fabrics that you have used…funny how many I have in my cupboard. Great work.
This reminds of that Road to Spring project I’ve seen in a few places.
It’s a great quilt to show off confidence in putting fabrics together as well.
It is just lovely! I love Kaffe’s saturated prints, but I also love his pastels. You used them fabulously.
the aqua really stands out to me and I love white (and all varieties of white) to boot!
beautiful! I am loving the color wheel affect on the last quilt, just gorgeous!
It’s beautiful! I love the soft pastels.
