::Reinvent, Recreate::

September 2, 2010 By Katie

Have you ever made something that you just LOVE, but you gave it away?

I’ve been thinking about this zip pouch I made for Grandma Goobin to carry her Ciggies.  Maybe it’s just the fabrics.  These prints were made to cozy up with linen I swear.

I recently recreated with thrilling results a quilt that I had gifted…but I don’t know if I could pull this one off differently and like it as much.

Right down to its triple stitched strap I want to duplicate it.

Is it me or do you make things improvisationally and wonder…now how in the…am I going to recreate THAT?

Making a sewing machine cover right now that I’m thinking I will need to re-create for myself!

I know exactly what you mean about the linen! I made a throw pillow for my daughter’s teacher last year with the same Hope Valley prints you used paired with linen and oh my gosh it was so hard to give away! Now that the kids are back in school I might actually get my act together to make one for myself…

I loved that when you first showed it too. I think it’s the jaggedy triangles that are so cool. I was imagining a quilt with all kinds of jagged triangle blocks. I also love the triple stitching too! Good luck.

Completely gorgeous!! I love that pouch – no wonder you wanted to recreate it with these awesome colors. Fab!

I love the top stitching – and I understand what it’s like to make something amazing, give it away, and then wish you had one yourself too! Good luck on the duplication… maybe you can find ways to improve upon the pattern when you’re re-creating it!

(Or the espresso I am drinking is giving me a case of “The Pollyanna’s and I am now overly-positive.)

So cool! I love it all, but the strap is genius. It’s amazing what stitching can do.

ah, but you don’t need a ciggies pouch, do you?

I often tell myself “just because you love it, doesn’t mean you should have it” — of course, this is usually about things that cost money, especially fancy house things that won’t even work in my place but are perfect on their own or in someone else’s house.

The beauty of improv is the newness of each quilt, block, pouch…

No, not for me…but Grandma Goobin is 92 and still smoking away.

Oh, it is beautiful! Any chance you could share where you buy your linen and what weight you use? I love the look of linen, but can’t find the real stuff anywhere near me. I’ll likely have to order on line, but don’t know what to buy without feeling it.
    HELP!

Kathy Mack @ Pink Chalk Fabrics carries some wonderful linen.

You made your Grandma a cigarette patch? I can’t decide if I think that is cool or a little bit sad? (full disclosure: my Dad has lung cancer after 50 years of smoking).

But I know what you mean about recreating improv. Even the same pile of fabrics brings out a different piece at the end. But, I find that it can be liked as much, if not more at the end.

I know, I know…but at her age she isn’t going to change and I just have to accept it and love her for who she is.

This bag is totally lovely! I’d like to make something similar!

LOVE the bag and fabric/linen combo. (*I heart Hope Valley*) And I know what you mean about recreating improv. Whenever I try I usually end up messing it up somehow. But when I get back into the spirit of improvising I can get a little of my mojo back! I’ve always said that I’d rather create than just keep producing the same stuff over and over again – keeping things basically one-of-a-kind makes them so special.
