Twins.
One Value Quilt in a Zig Zag design for Baby Boy.
One Value Quilt in an off-set diamond design for Baby Girl.
Free-motioned zig zags are fun.
So is echoing a single flower.
Loads of medium, low contrast and a few spots that kinda lose it. I like that.
All goodness.
Except for needing that picture of them together.
Go make yourself a Value Quilt with that overwhelming amount of fabric you’ve been hoarding.
Took these pictures a few weeks ago, and although the weather hasn’t been great, it looks a hell of a lot less dreary around here.

Both quilts are great 🙂 I just finished my first HST value quilt top a few days ago and I love it!

I hear you have some fabric to make one.

Your free-motion zig zags lines are so straight! I started quilting a twin this afternoon, and my “straight” lines are wobbling all over the place. >_<

This reminds me to get back to the color values quilting again! I really loved making 2 small ones earlier this year thanks to you. I have been collecting lots of children’s prints to do that with. Great inspiration!

Those zig zags are very neat. I love how the diamond one turned out too.

I so love that baby boy zig zag. I’ve been feeling a zig zag lately. But I think I want to do it the easy way with rectangles instead of HST. Have you tried that method?
Linda Ashworth says
I am about to cut squares to make a baby Zigzag quilt. Unsure of the sizing. How big did you cut your squares and how large were the finished HSTs? Also what size were the finished quilts? Both lovely and inspiring. Sorry for all the questions!
Sew Katie Did says
I’ve done all different sizes. I like 6 1/2 square to start with and then after they are pieced into hsts I cut them down to 6. I never worry about the finished size, I just make them as small or big as I want.

Thank you for your reply. Very kind of you. I am intending to use the method of making HSTs I saw on the Missouri Quilt Company website. I used it for the 2 doll zigzags I made at Christmas. Very simple and cuts out a lot of work! Have a look yourself. It is actually a quick way of making pinwheels but obviously the HSTs can be used for zigzags.I will have to use large squares of fabric to start with though, just working out the maths!
