::Get Your Berry On::

June 28, 2011 By Katie

Before I discovered sewing I baked.

Just ask my husband, he’ll be the first to tell you how I wooed him.

Pâte Sucrée, straight injection into any man’s heart.

Pulling my heart strings is fresh seasonal fruit, so this Lemon Curd Whipped Cream Tart with Berries is a match made in heaven (p.s. be sure to have more heavy cream on hand than the recipe calls for, the crust will need it to come together).

I haven’t made it in years.  Someday I’ll go lime.

With the family around and all the seasonal fruit the time was now.

One slice remained, and that was an exercise in restraint I believe.

What’s your favorite Summer dessert with fruit?

Summer Pudding is my favourite – but sadly, it is very seasonal, and we are in the middle of winter here (Australia).

We often have Summer Pudding at Christmas time, because all the berries are in season then.

    Your berries look luscious!

Wow that looks delish!! Hmm, favorite summer dessert has to just be fruit with homemade whipped topping on it, simple but delicious 🙂

Katie that looks delish! I too am a baker. Blueberry crumble has overtaken blueberry pie as a June favorite around here. Each summer my son and I drive over to Moorhead’s and pick our own berries. I’ll keep some for snacking, make a dozen cream cheese-blueberry muffins and a crumbly crumble with lots of oats and brown sugar. Yum!

That looks absolutely delicious! How is it that you are a baker and remain so trim?? I am a baker, too, (not so trim) and I think my favorite summer fruit dessert is fruit pies–probably peach.

Funny! Before I discovered sewing I baked too!! I clumsily cooked my way through most of Nigella’s domestic goddess book, made my own jams and bread… I think my hubby still yearns to go back to those days because you can’t eat a quilt no matter how yummy it looks 😉

Being British through and through my favourite summer pudding is Eton mess. Juicy strawberries, gooey meringue and fresh cream. Nothing better on a hot summer day!

Just the fruit! I love any berries, cherries and apricots! I could eat them in huge quantities! I do love a good cheese cake with any of those fruits too, but give me the simple and plain fruit anytime!

Ooh, I love fruit tarts and lemon – looks amazing! I baked more before I started quilting too 🙂 However, my husband doesn’t like sweets, but at least my girls do.

I just made a Rubarb Custard tart with strawberries and whipped cream from a Tartelette (love her blog) recipe so yummy! After the kids had seconds I did eat the last slice you have more restraint then I do.

I still bake all the time! I’m a pie girl myself. We love handpies though because the girls adore the pastry and the ease of eating them.

Rhubarb pie! It’s only in season at this time of year, and we pay a premium price. I read east coast and mid-west gardening bloggers lament the irrepressible weedy rhubarb they must deal with and wish I could grow rhubarb in my garden. On the other hand, I always have lemons from my tree, and lemon meringue pie whenever my family wants.

This is so pretty and no doubt delicious!! I’m always looking for new ways to use the lemons from our trees. Berries and heavy cream- definitely on my list this weekend!! 🙂
