Well, my computer has been in the shop for the week which means I was actually a productive sewist. Mind you I also practically lost my mind since I couldn’t even look up a phone number.
Now my camera has decided that “close-up” mode is all that is needed so this is as good as it gets for a full shot (ignore dreary Seattle backyard mid-December too), but Eeeekkkk… L-O-V-E this simple charm quilt! It’s twin size.
Went with the orange peel free motion again and will likely revisit it when I get to another charm quilt with the grays I’ve been collecting.
The back is mostly Alexander Henry Whispering Wings, a print I want to keep on my shelf forever. It was too perfect as backing for this quilt though. I have a hard time with that sometimes.
I only had so much of it, so I added a few extra squares to the back. It showcases the quilting a bit I think.
I went with the green binding. I wanted to try to pick up on the small bits of green in the butterfly wings.
I think I’ve mentioned my need to switch between traditional and improvisational work, so when it’s a little bit brighter in these parts I have a “new” quilt top to share that steps away from this traditional squares stuff I’ve had so much fun producing lately.
I’ll certainly need some suggestion in quilting it, but I’m going to let it hang a bit for my own imagination first.
Happy Sunday Everyone!
oh how i love this quilt katie! i want to be your best friend so we can swap quilts! 😉 it really is just lovely!
A very happy quilt, Katie! Love you quilting and back, too!
; )
I love the oange peel quilting – I’ll have to try that soon – and the butterflies on the back – beautiful!
This is really really lovely! I love the colours in this quilt and the just the simplicity of squares. Looking forward to seeing your next quilt top!
Qué maravilla!!! me encanta el acolchado que le has puesto.

It’s so fun to see your name popping up and FQ in London now…awesome!!
Oooh, love the colours in this, and the butterflies on the back. I’ve been pondering what to do with some charms, this may be the way to go!
Such a cute quilt! Happy and fun… Kind of an updated version of the one my grandma made for me when I was little. A couple of these for my girls may be on the horizon. You’ve inspired me!! 🙂
So pretty! Great colors.
Ohhhhhhh….. the reason my room is so full of fabrics is because I can’t bear to use them. People think I am crazy. I won’t do fabric swaps because I love my stuff so much! LOL>
But if I am going to continue fitting in my room, I really need to use them. Maybe I will get professional therapy first!

Love this, Katie. Wish I had such cute scraps!!
Thanks Katie. I tried to comment on your blog but it was giving me fits. Good luck on the photo.
Being in the Pacific Northwest one NEEDS something bright and this fits the bill! Love it! I’ve got one waiting to be quilted that’s a charm quilt and it’s nice and bright too!
Congratulations, Katie. It’s a lovely finish!
Love this quilt, the combination of those beautiful fabrics and colours. And the orange peel quilting pattern is great especially in the contrasting colour. I wonder did you follow a tutorial for the quilting?
I followed a template on a long arm the first time I did it and just got the continuous lines in my head. Oh Franson has a tutorial on how she does it, she calls it dogwood I believe. I use a hera marker to mark the middle of the row of blocks in one direction and then go back through the row with a disappearing marker to mark the exact middle. On all outside blocks I mark the middle from an inside line to make up for the extra 1/4″ where binding is placed.
Thanks Katie for the detailed advice on machine quilting. I’ll have to have a look at that tute and maybe have a go. It sounds tricky!
Beautiful!! I love “leftovers” 🙂
Oh! I just love this quilt! Especially the quilting, It’s gorgeous!
It’s so pretty! The pictures look good and not-dreary. I love how you quilted it, too.
SO nice! Your quilting is perfect for it!
You are collecting grey charms? Let me know if you need some more…
I would love to make a gray quilt. Wanna trade some fabric? I actually wouldn’t mind 5.5 width of fabric strips to cut into 5.5″ squares.
It is a beautiful quilt.
I love how happy your quilts are! Your orange peels look great! I want to try doing that someday… :}
I love anything bright an cheery like this. Nice job.
