::Close to Finished::

April 10, 2012 By Katie

I’ve made some major progress on two quilts in the past few days.

Anything Goes is quilted.  The vertical lines you all gave me the go on look awesome!  I didn’t go organic in their nature, but stick straight.

There are a few blocks that float off the edge of the quilt.  I created a binding with the same strip piecing as the blocks to complete the missing side.  I used the same technique showcased in Fresh Cut.

The front is mostly linen and the back a flannel in deep green.  I used a load of leftover strip piecing and one lonely block to finish it off.  It was a bear to square up in the end and I was happy I’m an over baster, because linen and flannel married like to move around a lot.

My only regret is not going a little further between lines.  The drape of the quilt with these two fabrics was so lovely and next time I’ll give those lines a little more breathing room to keep the softness.

This afternoon with the back door open and that robin singing, I had time to baste Psychedelic Baby.

I’ve got a quilting plan AND the day off tomorrow.

Life is good!

Just beautiful!! Love “Anything Goes” (the colors and the quilting is right up my alley!!) but “Psychedelic Baby” is awesome in its unexpectedness!

Anything Goes looks fantastic! I’m looking forward to seeing what that binding thingoo you mentioned looks like.

Hee, Psychedelic Baby makes my eyes bug out a little, but that means it’s doing its job, right? It is psychedelic, after all! 😀

I love Psychedelic Baby. I think it is the colours and the way you have split the squares to give a splintered effect. You are really inspiring me to try and attempt quilting again. Thankyou.

Anything goes is looking great, although having quilted on linen yesterday, I have to agree on the moving PITA part!

Loving how psychedelic baby is coming along 🙂

Oh Katie! I have been studying psychedelic baby and I just love it more with each glance. I love how it is fractured in so many places but there are perfectly straight lines too! Just to kind of reign the whole thing in. It is brilliant. I can’t wait to see how you quilt it. Have fun!

Both are fantastic – love the binding feature on ‘Anything Goes”. Will there be a pattern coming out for the Psychedelic Baby? Please!!! I would love to try that.

No pattern, but I’ll post more on it later. Our book has the basics and it is a merge of two patterns in there.

wow, wow, and wow! all kinds of quilty goodness here! Anything Goes looks wonderful – the straight line quilting is perfect, and i love what you did with that pieced binding. And I’ve been waiting to see Psychedelic Baby – right up my string block-loving alley! (did you have a peek of this one in pillow form at one time, or am I imagining things? I saw something like it somewhere, right?)

Thanks for the quilty comments. P.B. did exist in pillow form with prints, except this time I used some left over half-square triangles for some of the rounds. It is a merge of two quilts in the book, part string block, part stitch and flip triangle. I’m sick of keeping everything under wraps and this one is going in an exhibit in May.

I’m loving your rectangular string blocks I saw and might have those to look forward to in my future. Unfortunately I quilt faster in my head then real life.

Psychadelic Baby is insane! It’s totally trippy, like you dropped a stone into a pond and it rippled out.

I am especially impressed with the perfect match on the binding with the blocks that float off the edge. Excellent! Definitely adding your book to my library!
