::Sew Instead::

January 11, 2013 By Katie

You know those kind of cupboards that don’t reach the ceiling?  The kind that has space for putting ‘collections.’  I’ve got those and I’ve been thinking for maybe…oh about 3 years that I should wash the stuff that I’ve collected up there.  I’m sure Jefe would agree with me that it is a fine and carefully curated collection.

sewkatiedid

Today I did it, sort of.

I took down my Cathrineholm (total Goodwill score) and washed the grime that accumulates after years of living in a rental home that still for some unknown reason possesses the original oil furnace.  Yeah, awesome.

After those I was done, and promptly inspired, or at least that’s my excuse, to make napkins from that cute fabric I got on my last trip to Stash in Columbia City that reminds me of these pots.

Hard to resist all that new Lizzy House and the Picnic Pals fabric, so I double sided them.

I love a quick project and it makes you feel so accomplished when you are procrastinating what you really should be doing.

I was highly productive in other realms today and even installed the newer operating system on my Mac, which is just awesome because now I have no clue how to move a page up or down and apparently my version of WORD isn’t compatible anymore so now I don’t have to finish those quilt descriptions for my show in March by tomorrow.

Have a great weekend!

He he…I exactly know that kind of cupboard…and the strategies to avoid looking at it an noticing the grime…!
Did you put newspaper on top of the cupboard? Much easier the clean the next time!

    Greetings from Germany!

I think you did a great job of cleaning up the cookware and strainer, they are really neat looking something I have never seen before. I like thre fabric you used, don’t think I have ever seen that pattern of fabric before. I love to quilt and I am currently making the tumbling block quilt, it is really fun once you catch on to what your suppose to do. I am useing a jelly roll to make the quilt and it’s a fat roll will have to send you a picture. I live in a little rural town that is called Harveyville. We had a tornado last February 2012 so the anniversary is coming up. My sewing room was a mess because it poured rain in that room because of the roof. It was a while til I was back to sewing again. I sew everyday as I am disabled and that helps me allot. I can’t drive because I have elipesy, so I have five Bichons dogs that keep me company when my husband is working. I will send you a picture of my quilt when I finish it. It is really nice to meet you and may you have a wonderful year

Ugh chores. I’m finishing up a major overhaul and clean of my pantry. Love the napkins. I have deadlines on two little art quilts so I guess I will have to mine a little later. Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh dear. Computers are great—when they work. Just wondering if you know this little trick for on top of the cupboards. Roll out wax paper . It’s usually the width of the cupboards. Place all your collectible s on top. In the spring, wash collectible s, scrunch up wax paper and toss it out! The cupboard top is clean!
    Repeat.
    Enjoy your day.

Procrastinating and stalling over here too, so I started making a little pouch to give away on Monday at the meeting. I missed Stash this Wednesday.

I love your collections, and the fabrics will make nice matching curtains, place mats, pot holders, oven mittens, table runners, etc for the kitchen area. I also love your small projects. Thanks for always sharing your ideas. Mtetar

Love those napkins! I finally made it to Vashon island and Island Quilter…and it was during the holiday sale. Loved that place! Do you go to the Friday night open sessions? I’m thinking about it. Wrote a blog post about my visit and your quilts there!

The last friday of each month I will be there for the open sew providing we get enough sign-ups for me to make the trip over. I think it will be $25.

Would love to see you there!

I love the napkins, I have some fabric waiting to become napkins and it’s always the last thing on my list.
Every time we upgrade something on my laptop it messes up something else I’ve taken to using mac pages will that work for you?

I’m cleaning out the cupboards toooooooo….. It takes a long time: everything needs to be checked –> keep, donate, throw??? How cool is to discover such beauties in your cupboards, though! I wish I would find such precious items in mine! I really love your new napkins too! If you ever want to “donate” those, I know a kitchen they would fit into nicely! LOL
