Some students and I spent Saturday afternoon together learning about color value and its importance in quilt design at the West Seattle Stitch and Sew Studio.
A few shots of some of the designs.
This is still one of my favorite classes to teach.
My time in West Seattle wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the West Seattle Fabric Company after class.
I’ve got my triangles class coming up at the studio. I love this sample quilt. It fits into the cuteness of the shop so well.
I did some coordinating of prints. Aqua and red, lovely combo. Monica’s got the new Moda Simply Color line (all colors!) by Vanessa and Company, some Joel Dewberry (that plaid is awesome) and these drops by Valerie Wells are a unique small scale print.
I decided that I’d add this set of FQs to the giveaway pile at the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild’s February Meeting. Come one, come all.
I’m in love with that star quilt too!
i love the triangle quilt! Who made the star quilt on the wall in the first picture? I love it and need to see more!
Emily Cier of Carolina Patchwork. I think she has a pattern for it too!

Beautiful Fabrics, and so are the quilts. Mtetar
I am drawn to the design in the second picture. I struggle with value. Do you have any tips?
Have you tried my tutorial?: http://sewkatiedid.wordpress.com/2009/03/20/value-quilts-tutorial/
It might help. xo

You have heard of course, “color gets all the credit but value does the work”. Value makes all the difference in a successful quilt or painting. Really enjoyed the colorful pics and yummy fabric.
I have heard it and even say it in all my classes!
