Well it’s back to reality around here! Quiltcon was more than I could have ever expected and comes with the added bonus of something to look forward to in 2015.
I’ve only got a minute to post before diving into classwork and inputting receipts, so I thought I’d post a few photos. Stick through to the end and there will be a little giveaway for feedback.
Highlight #1 For sure was doing a demo and a book signing for Quilting Modern with Jacquie. It was the first time we’ve been in the same room since working on the book.
Hightlight #2 We were extremely proud to have two quilts from the book exhibited and I had one of my own on display that I sold. How nice to come home with my margaritas covered.
Blue Ice from the Going Crazy Chapter on Modern Crazy Piecing.
And Add It Up from the Free Yourself Free Piecing chapter.
My Psychedelic Baby Quilt was accepted into the exhibit as well.
A special thanks to the Quiltcon board and all the volunteers! What a wonderful job. There was nothing but rave reviews that I heard. XOXO.
Hightlight #3 (or maybe it should be #1) Meeting all of you! Thanks for taking a minute and introducing yourselves. It was also highly entertaining to be walking by someone and all of a sudden realize I ‘knew’ them. You are all the warm wonderful people I thought you would be.
Help me out if you can and leave a comment with your name and blog or when we collided to jog my awful memory. I also realized I don’t have any photos, I would also be delighted to have a copy if we took one together (sewkatiedid@gmail.com).
Before I’m off to start laundry, Jacquie and I will be teaching three days of workshops on May 20th, 21st and 22nd on Vashon Island with details to be announced soon. For a chance to win a copy of Quilting Modern, leave a comment on what class or technique you would most like us to teach.
I’ll close this on March 2nd.
XOXO
QuiltCon really was awesome. It was nice to meet you in person at the show. (We chatted a bit in the lecture hall – day three or four, I forget.)
It was awesome having you in the same Angela Walters class. I love your book. It is full on righteous!
I wish I had been there physically. Everyone posted so well on instagram that I feel like I was there! I love your color value quilt and think that is definitely something I would like to learn more about.
I so wanted to meet you, but it just never seemed like the right time, busy days at Quilt Con. I loved seeing your quilts in person, and your demo with Jacquie was great!! You two are an awesome duo! I’m too far to take your class but if I wasn’t I’d love to learn how you do that Psychadelic Baby “thing”. I love it! I’m off to do some more laundry too- back to reality is right!! 🙂
improv piecing
I didn’t get to meet you but I did get to see your gorgeous quilts. I wish I could be at the class but I live in Austin so that won’t work. I would like to learn to piece curves so that gets my vote.
I would love to see a class on quilting larger quilts in less than ideal studio set-ups. Collage is also of interest to me.
I wish I had been there, but I really love your quilts, especially how effectively you used straight line quilting! Like Sheryl, I would love to see a class on quilting larger quilts, particularly basting them, in less than ideal setups.
Thanks for sharing, and Blessings in all you do. http://projectsbyMtetar.wordpress.com
Glad you had such an amazing experience at QuiltCon Katie! Like others, it would be fun to learn how to quilt on the larger quilts (when we’re not lucky enough to own fancy machinery ourselves). I’m also intrigued by a quilt featuring “x”s or crosses, not unlike one of the quilts you showed at QuiltCon. Welcome home, and congrats on the sale of your Psychedelic Baby quilt!
I would love to learn how to make the psychedelic baby quilt.
Glad you made it back with lots of happy in your pockets! I am in the Seattle MQG and will see you at the general mtg on the 11th (if you are going) and am so interested in taking any classes you will be teaching with Jacquie at the Island Quilter in May, will ask you more at the meeting! Curved piecing gets my vote…welcome home!
I loved QUILTCON! I met you and Jacquie out in the upstairs hallway on Friday. I was taking a break from my kitchen sink skirt class and you guys were crawling on the floor going through your quilts. 😉 I wish I could travel across country to attend your class in Washington!
I would love to have you teach the crosses quilt ! I am local and will be there in MAy!

Wish I could have been at QuiltCon. I would love to learn about color values.
It was so great to meet you in person! The whole of QuiltCon was amazing, it is all a blur to me now – and I wish there had been more time to sit and chat with you a bit. Hope to take a class from you one day!
Color values and quilting larger quilts would be my choices!! Can’t decide between the two.
I am so proud of you! Hugs, Joan
congrates Katie on the show of your creations and a sale to boot! was so fun being there with our group (SMQG) and doing what we had time to squeeze in together, busy but all good! seattle was well represented!!
I’m so happy for all the QuiltCon posts – makes it awesome for those of us who weren’t there! I would love to have more info. on improv piecing. I’d like to break free from patterns and expand my creativity!
Congratulations you deserve to be there your quilts and inspiring! Thank goodness for the net as I live in the UK so could catch up electronically!
Just started a blog
http://pinkbicyclequilting.blogspot.co.uk/ please have a look
Quiltcon was amazing, wasn’t it? It was so nice to see some of the quilts from the book in person and to hear Jacquie’s lecture!!
I wish I could have been there. I’m jealous after seeing so many awesome pics and hearing everyone rave about it. Next one! I’m into learning more about color values and handling gigantor quilts (to me that is anything but baby quilts)
Hi Katie, I met you at your demo, walking those fabulous quilts around. You and Jacquie are a great team. Then I seemed to see you all around town! Wish I could take a workshop with the two of you, but alas, a trip to the beautiful Pacific Northwest isn’t in the cards. I have some photos from the demo and the huge crowds that I will send soon.
It was so great to meet you at Quiltcon! We spoke a couple of times (at the book signing and then later when we talked about prostituting ourselves for a free yard of fabric or spool of thread 😉 ). Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
It was great to finally meet you Katie! Your quilts were so beautiful (Add it Up is one of my favorites ever). Hopefully I’ll see you down in Seattle some time!
I agree with the “quilting larger quilts in less than ideal studio set-ups”, and improv piecing too. So nice to see local quilts in the show!
I love color choices and things about design. I so need a getaway right now – any topic would be a good choice 🙂
Improv piecing and working with big quilts both get my vote!
It’s always fun to read about what events or places inspire a person. Thanks for your recap of QuiltCon!
I loved QuiltCon and I saw you from a distance. I would love to come down to Vashon. I took Jacquie’s class on Hexi’s and it was wonderful. I would love to see something for the advanced quilter and also colour values.
I recently found you and so many others who are blogging. I didn’t realize there are so many “out there”. I am so thankful for the inspiration you and others give so generously! Thank you!
Oh would love to go to any class by Jacquie..
Loved meeting you in Austin.
Color and value for me ~ it’s what I struggle with the most.
I love to do a class with you and Jacquie too!
I enjoyed looking through you book. I would like more information about going beyond just trying to replicate a quilt. I guess about going beyond and really making it your own.
I’m so glad your margaritas were covered. LOL! I gotta admit that made me laugh. Every bloggers who went to Quilt Con said it was wonderful. You really have to hand it to the organizers. They must’ve done a wonderful job.
Now bottle up the creativity and play. We want to see some more! 🙂
love to learn about quilting decisions for these great new modern designs.
I absolutely love your Psychedelic Baby quilt, and IMO it was the best quilt in the entire show! The other 2 are fabulous as well, of course. 🙂
I love the suggestions of how to apply your techniques to large projects, but no need to enter me in the giveaway-I already have the book and love it!
yes QuiltCon was FUN!!!! Lets see I met you after your demo with Jacquie…then also later while we looked at the quilt exhibit…I am an Emily from Chicago my blog is linked through my comment! again, nice meeting you!
oh and a class on curves, that is a weaker area of mine
I too am a fan of the Psychadelic Baby quilts, not just the piecing but I find the color scheme one of those that I like, but would have never come up with myself. So, one technique class and one on color.
I’ve always been too inhibited to try a “quilt”. I’ve made placemats, trivats, clothing and bags – but a whole quilt. Gah, too much stress. I think I’d like a class where the instructor just keeps patting my shoulder and saying, “no really, you can do this and you won’t keep seeing $$$$ when you look at the amount of fabric you’ve cut up!”
It was so nice to meet you in person, Katie! You seem like such a gentle, caring person. Thank-you for your helpful pointers in the past few years. It’s meant a lot!
I love your’s and Jacquie’s Quilting Modern book. You could pretty much go with any technique form the book. Love them all.
Love your Psychedelic Baby Quilt, I recently make the Blind Co-pilot quilt and love the stitch and flip technique.
It looked like such a fun time!!! Your quilts look beautiful!!
I would love to learn how you baste so you can get all of that tight straight line quilting without any puckers!
Oh, I would have loved to have been at QuiltCon but I consider myself quite fortunate to have you here in Seattle. I would like to learn more about values.
I truly love your approach to modern quilting. I would like to figure out your stitch and flip technique, but I really need help on basting and quilting a large quilt. Thanks for the chance!
You guy were awesome at QuiltCon. I felt so lucky to get to see you. I would absolutely love to win your book and anything taught from the book would be great. I look forward to more details on your class in May
I would like to learn more about color value and also your wonderful triangle quilts!
I’m sad we never saw each other more than that one time on the show floor! My SIL kept talking about your dress for days.
I know, I thought I’d run into you again for sure. We should have made a date for tea at least! Can’t even remember what dress, the whole time is a blur. Glad we got one hug in! xo
I didn’t go to QuiltCon, but it looks like it was lots of fun! I just bought your book last week and would be interested in learning more about the ‘shattered’ quilt technique. (and I’m still interested in the book – would gift to my friend!) thanks and congrats (very belatedly) on the book! I really like it so far, even though I haven’t had a chance to try any of the ideas.
