First things first.
- New workshops are on the schedule! (Including one sponsored by the South Sound Modern Quilt Guild).
- My friend, Blair Peter of Wisecraft is having a book signing at Drygoods Design tomorrow night.
- I just finished spending three wonderful days lecturing and teaching with The Quilters Anonymous Guild. What an awesome group of women! In support I’d like to let you know about their 31st annual quilt show is March 14th-16th in Monroe. Information here.
Now for the fun, except for that moving part…
Of course we had to have a party, pronto (Sorry, Vanagon always in some sort of ‘improvement’ stage).
I had this thought to have people fill out post it notes for their ideas on what they would do for the house remodel. The house has great bones, but there is too much wood, an overload of wallpaper and carpet up the wazoo.
I thought I’d share a little of my friends’ ‘ideas’ before I run a moving load over.
For fireplace (anything would be better than this wood/tile combo).
Electrical plug ideas/Lovely carpet.
Some great suggestions for a wall in the kitchen.
and just because the glittering paint wasn’t enough.
Who doesn’t have a wallpaper boarder of Parisian cafe people in their living room? Somehow I missed photographing the post it that suggested I make a dress for Roan’s future prom date from the curtains.
This colored glass has got to go.
But guess what the best part is?
Remodel of this garage into a studio coming as soon as I can get the majority of wallpaper off the walls and the wood floors under all this carpet done.
Any one know a great whitish wall/ceiling and trim combo color for the Pacific Northwest? I’ve got quite a few walls to cover and some wood!
oh, I so loved reading your friends’ suggestions, esp. the place of worship ones. How fun!!!
I just painted my dining room with a bright white (just the untouched white straight outa the can) and a warm, light, putty, greyish color called ‘Whetstone Grey’ from Behr, lots of compliments and not too dark for our skies, nice back drop color for all of my other colored sh–I means stuff.
Did Germans own this house?
I wanna say Norwegian;), but my grandfather was German so I can see it.
I obviously missed the post about you moving, but congratulations! Looks like you could use some time and input from the HGTV crews. 😀 But, wow, a studio. Yippeee! The best part of a new place to live is turning it into “you”. Enjoy.
what year is your Vanagon? we have a 1985 Westfalia conversion.
Ours is an 87. Love it!
Congratulations!! Huge job but oh so fun….and can’t wait to see the garudio! 🙂
Oooh, that’s an exciting change! I hate the moving part too. Love the suggestions!
We also live in an older home… and it simply stuns me that the people who came before us never had an issue with no lock on the bathroom door. 🙂
Congrats on the new house..
Ha ha.. Had so much fun reading the yellow posters. Good luck with the house 🙂
I noticed you’ve been pinning a lot of home ideas too….. so glad I’m following your board as we are going through a similar process and seem to have similar taste! We just moved too and it’s a doozie of a fixer as well. So loving all the possibilities (your sticky notes idea is awesome). Congrats on the potential studio space!
BTW, the first improvement we made in our new home was to paint it all white!!! I love it! Enjoy!
oh yeah! pin too!
Wish I lived closer, such fun stuff, love painting. Btw – could consider a sky light or solar tube in new garage/studio…. :). Bringing more light before painting….
we’ve been thinking about it. xo
We have a solar tube above our basement stairs. Love that it removed the gloom.
Fun to watch your transition! I’m in Phoenix, AZ… no where hear PNW. I LOVE my Sherwin Williams “Polite White” and “Destiny”, a very warm light gray. Natural fruitwood stain baseboards, solid core door and trim. 20×20 inch porcelain tiles that look like concrete….. easy to sweep up the cutting scrapes, dust and thread bits. Keep us posted!
I use to live in AZ. Miss that light.
Katie, I am so excited for you and your family! My CA house had a lot of wood paneled walls. In one room I had the dark paneling painted white, like the rest of the room, and it added much needed texture. My Ballard house was painted in trendy colors when I purchased it. I had it painted white and it gave me a wonderful, clean space to decorate. Where is the house? I hope it is not too far away.
come visit Wednesday and I’ll tell you all about it! xo
Congrats on the new house! Enjoy!
I’m loving the little brick courtyard next to your ‘garudio’!
Oh yeah, me too!
Katie, so excited for you. bravo!
What a great idea! We should have done this when we moved house as ever since we moved in people have been ever so helpful with their many suggestions for sorting out the world’s worst examples of DIY@
Those green and white rectangular tiles look “quilty” to me — I could see a pattern evolving from just those, but looks like you have a sledgehammer in mind instead.

Congrats Katie! So exciting!!!
That was such a fun you idea you had to collect crowd wisdom via post-its. Your friends came up with some hilarious responses, and your editing made it even more fun!! Good luck with moving in and fixing up.
I am so happy for you and your family, congratulations. I love the metallic paint.
Congrats! Exciting! LOVE the friends/post-it idea!! Enjoy this chaos of starting a new chapter!
What fun friends you have writing those sticky notes! I have some paint ideas for you – we used a line of paint called “Devine” made by Parker Paint. They regionalized the colors so the NW colors cancel out the grays. I have a lot of “Custard” walls + “Whip” trim. Whip would make a great off-white wall color. The line was bought by a new company and is now called EVOLUTION. It’s available at McLendon’s Hardware.
Thanks Lisa!
I laughed out loud because those are exactly the sort of notes our friends would leave! Gotta love your ‘family of acquisition’. So honest.
The post it note idea was genius!
As for whites, I love our Oxford White from Benjamin Moore. I do notice that in the areas with less light it can appear a bit more grey. But in the rooms with lots of light I find it perfect – not cold, not creamy. Cloud white is another designer favourite from them.
Going to buy a tester today of the Oxford. Thanks for the suggestion. xo
i am in love with Cloud White from Benjamin more. I used it in my basement studio a couple of years ago and have since used it to paint the entire basement as well as the bedrooms in our family cottage.
Off to buy some Cloud White! xo
