::Checking In::

April 9, 2014 By Katie

Moving and unpacking is very similar to quilting, I do it all faster in my head.

sewkatiedidA little bit of progress is made each day, but I’m getting a bit itchy to sew, so I started to tackle the temporary studio.

The lack of organization is driving me crazy because I can’t focus on a thing.  The minute I leave one room I jump to another project.  I might need to be tethered.

sewkatiedid

For the first time EVER, my fabric and I will cohabit in the same room when I sew (isn’t it pretty;).  I’m hoping our relationship in this small studio will be brief, but until we can gain some footing with the house projects the Garudio (garage/studio) is second fiddle.

It’s kind of scary to see all my stash in one room, and I was teasing on Instagram the other night that apparently in my twisted psyche some sort of catastrophe was going to happen if I didn’t purchase a butt-load of AMH Good Folks flannel when it went on sale.

I think I’ll insulate the house with it.

I hope to make it back in this space next week with some more progress.  I’m heading to the San Juan’s this weekend to teach and then spring break!  Don’t worry, I won’t torture you with many toenail photos.

Happy Happy Everyone.

With all that loveliness around you I’d never want to leave that room. Good luck with the rest of the unpacking!

Enjoyed your post. I recently moved as well, and have total sympathy. It took me weeks to finally get our little third bedroom turned into a sewing room, and for the first time I, too, have all my stash, all my stuff in one room. And oh my….I swear I never NEED to buy fabric again……but something tells me that isn’t going to happen! Enjoy getting your new nest in order!

How in the world do you get those fabrics bundles to stand up like that? So pretty! 🙂

I’m not finding it on IG (not very IG-savvy). But I didn’t have your AMH flannel foresight — any interest in parting with some?

I haven’t looked into its current worth. What size cuts would you be looking for?

I have a move ahead of me this summer to a foreign country, and probably into an apartment without a sewing room… All the best for settling in your new place!

We had what we called a ‘livudio’ (living room/studio) for years. Sewing is doable in a small space!

Major fabric envy! I am also moving – just waiting for a date. As it’s my first house I’m a little excited at the thought of packing and unpacking, but I imagine that will wear off in a few hours of boxes and fights with rolls of tape.

haha, the euphoria does wear off quickly when unless the house is all finished. Good luck with the move.

I sent this post to my husband and daughter, noting that someday I’ve love to have that sort of quilt collection (not to mention the fabrics). My husband sent back a smiley face, while my daughter reminded us both that all it takes is a bookcase (quilting has muscled its way into my life via that eldest child). 🙂
