I’m having the best first summer in our new house.
Replacing the four hours of my day that I was commuting Roan to and from school with sewing has proven productive AND there’s World Cup.
I really wanted to get to this design, off-setting a bunch of these rings, but first I felt I needed to get to some of these quilts in process.
I taught a Double-Trouble and Value quilt workshop in Portland last weekend, so this scrappy sample was the first on my list to finish up. The neutral background is a mix of scraps also, including flannel, so I of course love the feel.
A few of us went over to Island Quilter for an impromptu open studio and I was able to tape out Psychedelic Baby’s size on the floor. It was the only way I could figure out how to off-set it properly to be on a queen size bed. I still somewhat messed it up, but I’m good with that. It’s still not square, but close enough for the quilting stage and I’ll access it again after.
I purchased more Essex to fill out the corners on my Sochi Hex quilt (that’s my Olympic joke back to you Sandie) and then I can add it to my huge pile of unquilted tops or finished quilt tops depending on how you look at it;)
I have many starts with stitch and flip triangles. I love their simplicity. This technique is one of two classes I’ll be teaching at the Association of Pacific West Quilters symposium August 2nd and 3rd at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma so I thought I would put together another sample.
I got to thinking that this quilt will work as a new improvisational quilting for beginners workshop sample too.
I’m getting use to my little studio and trying hard to make do with what’s there and my lack of distance from a design wall so that all pennies go into the rat city Garudio.
Pink Chalk Fabrics kindly asked me to take part in their Where I Sew tour, but I had to raincheck. I giggled a bit about what I would show you here. I thought I might still try to post here on my own, but we are preparing to depart for Spain and since Jefe wants to just do carry on backpacks (because we’re still 20) I have to spend some extra time thinking about what to pack. I’m pretty sure my ideas of making a voile pillowcase for my pillow (that I don’t know where I’ll pack) and a clean girl/dirty girl skivvies bag have gone to the end of the list along with that idea in the first picture.
I hope (sort of) that my next post is about digging a ditch and building a French drain for the Garudio remodel.
Have a great month everyone. I’ll likely be over at Instagram here and there.
Oh, and Happy Birthday America!
oh your patchwork just makes me want to cry…it really is SO beautiful. I could only dream of creating anything in your league. Jean
Safe travels Katie! Will you teach the “double trouble” here sometime? I’m crazy about it!
I will teach it here Pat. Stay tuned on my classes page;)
These samples are so fabulous! Love all those little bits in the second one : )
I am jealous of all that work getting done! Oh, to be that efficient. Or, to not have a toddler.
Love your set up. So tidy.
Your designs are awesome and your sewing room makes me green with envy! 🙂 That’s awesome.
so many cool projects! Too much inspiration! Good luck with your packing, and have fun on your trip
Four hours a day? That is lunacy! But I’ve just finished commuting myself so I know the feeling! Great work too!
Beautiful inspiring work. Love your colour sense.
I just finished two quilts from your book. I had so much fun making them. I love the baby quilt. Will we see more how to info on that one soon?
Not soon, we’re in Spain, would love to see your quilts!
The more of your posts I read the more I think that your Jefe and my Marcus must be related! 🙂 I hope that you have a great trip to Spain! I love to read your posts and see all of your ideas and works in progress!
We’re having the best time! First beach day was today.
Lovely and great job. Blessings Always, Mtetar
Hope you had a great time in Spain – it’s really a lovely place! May I ask how you get your fabric to stand up on the shelves like that? Is it on boards or is it just gravity? Thanks so much for sharing your quilts with us!
Hi Betsy. It’s just folded and a lot of it! Happy collecting;)
